Looks great to me, even if they never made an old ’40s newsreel-style trailer like I wanted to see. I think I’m going on media blackout on Cap now until it comes out. I’ve seen plenty.
A newsreel trailer would have been perfect!
I guess I don’t know why the studios aren’t taking advantage of these obvious marketing opportunities with these period-piece films. I think if the marketing for X-Men: First Class had settled on the retro 60’s cool vibe that the film itself exhibits in their advertising, there would have been a lot less skepticism about the project.
Instead they tried to make it look like Brett Ratner’s X-4.

Skeptical… as I am of all comic book movies but I REALLLY want to see this one. I agree the song choice for this trailer seems odd…
The only thing I don’t like from that trailer is Cap weilding a hand gun. Cap beats his opponents with a shield and guts, and not a whole heck of a lot else. BTW, I would love to see a scene in a Cap movie like this one: http://www.dominic-deegan.com/view.php?date=2009-11-13
Yes… very odd music. I really don’t like when they do period pieces and use really non-period music for the marketing. If period music doesn’t fit your trailer, use a part of the score or steal one from another movie’s.
I still feel like they should have hidden almost all of the shots of him as Captain America until the end of the trailer.
Just have the trailer end with Tommy Lee Jones talking about escorting Hitler to the gates of hell, the shot of Captain and the Commandos breaking down the door, the shield slams up,’Captain America: The First Avenger’
The extra tag on the end of this trailer feels really forced and out of place, like its on there to say ‘Hey, it’ not just a guy movie, there’s girls kicking ass as well’
It’s got my money already, but I have low expectations for it.
This is the best trailer they’ve released yet, I think. Up until this one, I’ve been in the I-know-I’ll-see-it-cuz-I’m-a-comic-geek boat, with little enthusiasm. I think the costume looks ridiculous, and I hate that “First Avenger” subtitle, as now they’re blatently saying “yeah, this is just an ad for The Avengers movie”.
But now – This trailer looks like it could actually be pretty good!
I like the use of Forty Six & 2 as its, essentially, about the next stage of man. And my favorite Tool track…
A 40’s news reel trailer would be cool, but as for Tom’s remark of 60’s retro XMen ad, I think that would have hurt the movie more.
I thought the song choice wasn’t right at all. Also, I’m getting kind of tired of “Avengers” preambles. Despite that, I know I’ll see this movie….I’ll probably wait for a cheap, uncrowded matinee though.
