I think with comedies a lot of it is just “I’m making a fun/entertaining film, let’s see how many of my friends/buddies I can put in this thing so we can hang out.” I can totally understand, if I ever had the opportunity to work with my friends on any project I would totally do it.
Also comedies have thrived off the whole “Brat Pack” and now “Frat Pack” thing. It’s like free marketing.
Depp does look six kinds of stupid in this thing. That was my first thought. When I saw the first trailer I nearly screamed “WHAT THE CRAP!!? ……. wait…. that’s Jonny Depp! Wow, I thought he looked ridiculous in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
Of course we’re supportive of you, Tom. You entertain our Monday, Wednesday((or in this case, Thursday)), and Friday. You’re part of my day starters, man. I appreciate the work you put into this. So, thanks for all that you do, man. I just wish that I had the visual artistic skills that you have. I have some webcomic ideas, but nobody to draw them. lol
So, in case you didn’t catch on, you’re inspirational. ๐
Johnny Depp looks like Elijah Wood in this movie. Elijah Wood as the Mad Hatter, of course. I’m not saying Wood looks like a total freak. But I never realized how similar their facial structures were.
Chuck, I totally agree with you! Pasty!Depp does kinda have the facial expressions of Elijah Wood. I really do want to see this movie because I just love Johnny Depp…but also it’s probably gonna be awhile until something really interests me comes to film in awhile. I also love fairy tale/fantasy genres. So it’s a win for me. I just won’t see it opening week…I know, I’m not a “true fan if I don’t see the midnight showing OMG!” but seriously I really don’t like going in on opening weeks cause that’s when brat bombard you with their shrieking. >.<
Don’t forget about Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks, my favorite actor/director combination ever.
I kind of deliberately left out comedy director/actor pairings because – for some reason – those guys REALLY like to use the same stable of actors.
Mel Brooks, Judd Apatow, Christopher Guest are just three comedy directors that spring to mind.

Inspirational?
I don’t know what else to say to that except “Thank you.”

I just speak/type the truth, Tom. ๐
I’m really surprised you didn’t make a link to this spoof on Tim Burton.

And yeah, totally supportive of your life and the joy I’ve gotten from your comics along with getting some perspective on movies I’d want to see.
Now if you’ll excuse me I have some Danny Elfman to diddly to.
Man, I like the list in the comic, but you can’t forget Akira Kurosawa and Toshiro Mifune!
