I wasn’t that impressed with District 9. It reminded me a lot of White Man’s Burden with John Travolta and Sidney Poitier. And what’s up with all the movies of late with “9” in their titles? District 9, 9, Nine…wtf?
I much preferred Moon to District 9 in spite of the fact I had sussed the plot just watching the trailer.
I honestly can’t believe a top 10 list for 2009 doesn’t include at least a couple out of District 9, Moon and The Hurt Locker. Especially The Hurt Locker. Hands down my favorite movie of 2009. With that said, I’ve seen all of those movies in your list (except Princess & the Frog and Mr.Fox) and enjoyed all of them quite a bit. I wasn’t that enthused as you were about Taken, I thought it was okay, but the others are all solid picks.
My top 10:
1. The Hurt Locker
2. District 9
3. Avatar
4. Watchmen
5. Moon
6. Up!
7. The Hangover
8. Star Trek
9. Inglorious Basterds
10. Sherlock Holmes
Honorable mentions to Zombieland, G.I. Joe (Yes, I loved it! If you think of it as a cartoon-in-real-life, it’s great!) and The Informant.
Moon and The Hurt Locker probably would have been in my Top 10, had I seen them.
I wanted to see them!
District 9 came in 11th on my list. It missed the Top 10 by a hair. It’s an amazing film but tough to love. There’s some disturbing “betrayal of body” stuff in that movie that really freaked me out.
I did a Top 5 of 2009 and my ranks were
5. District 9
4. Paranormal Activity
3.Sherlock Holmes
2. The Hangover
1. A Serious Man
Wow out of that list I’ve only seen Star Trek, The Hangover, and Up.
I really enjoyed District 9 as well and I wanted to see both Paranormal Activity and Sherlock Holmes.
I suppose being in China with limited access to movies in theatres really does have it’s drawbacks even if I can catch everything on DVD.

Any chance for a Bottom 10 of 2009?
IngloUrious basterds. The two spelling errors are for flair.
