Was reading your Twitter war with Scott Kurtz. Can’t wait to read your opinion on this later this week.
P.S. Pledged $45 already. The avatars are tempting, but I don’t have $150 to just sort of spend like that (still unemployed and still have rent to pay).
I don’t know if I’m going to address it or not, Kevin. I think if you listen to the uStream, Kurtz’s arguments against Kickstarter kind of unravel. Plus, to recap the entire conflict would take more time and energy than I care to spend.
My main conflict with Kurtz is that he wields influence. When he runs off at the mouth without all the facts, then his characterization jeopardizes sincere fund raising efforts.
It pretty much boiled down to semantics anyway. Kurtz thinks a “pledge” is the same thing as a “donation” – when it’s not. You get nothing for your donation. You get a reward for your pledge.
Interesting ustream conversation – but so much navel gazing! I’m not sure I see the problem with Kickstarter since I’m getting an excellent book for my pledge.
