I didn’t make the connection, but I’ve also never heard of Wild Things. Is it an older movie? It very well might have come out before I was old enough to watch those kind of movies.
All the same, I am looking forward to seeing WTWTA this weekend. My friend and I are doing a triple feature day on Saturday: Where the Wild Things Are, Whip It and Zombieland (why yes, we do get paid on Friday!). Any suggestions on which order we should see them in?
Wild Things, I think came out it 1998 or 1999, so it’s been a little while ago. A big deal was about about the lesbian make-out scene with between Neve Campbell and Denise Richards at the time because Campbell was still on Party of Five, I think – or maybe trying to break away from that.
Also, Kevin Bacon shows his dong.
As for your Triple Feature… I’d probably see Whip It first. It’s light, it’s predictable, but it’s fun. Where The Wild Things Are is also fun, but it’s a little meatier with it’s subtext. It can be a little dark and violent, too. But it is also resonant. Finsh up with Zombieland. After two movies, you’re going to need a bolt of energy and Zombieland packs a punch – both with the writing and the action. It’s witty, it’s sharp and you’ll probably leave the theater with the most “up” feeling if you end on that one.
Whoa, I haven’t even thought about Wild Things since I saw it as a kid. I think I tried to watch it twice, but my grandma banned it from the house (guess she didn’t think it appropriate for this 8 year old. Go figure).
I have no memory of any lesbian make out scenes, though.
I hadn’t heard of this connection, and therefore I laughed my butt off. Top notch stuff today Tom. Wild rumpus indeed!
Also, I just got back from seeing Where the Wild Things Are and was struck by how intense it was. I knew that it was going to be dark, but I expected some sort of happy, resolved ending. I suppose there was to some extent, but if I were a child watching that movie, I would be horribly confused. That said, I thought it was brilliantly done, incredibly powerful stuff.

Good luck!

Someone has made that connection before. In last months issue of “Game Informer” magazine, they make pretty much the exact same joke. Sorry, dude.
Hmm. Game Informer, yes.
It’s where I go for ALL of my movie news! 😉

I thought of it too, if it makes you feel better.
But I used to have a serious crush on Denise Richards, too.
I did a double feature with WTWTA and Zombieland and I’m definitely glad we finished with Zombieland because of how much WTWTA struck a chord with me.
