ive already seen district 9 last month but it was so good, im just overly hyped to see it again with my fiance. if i have the chance ill try to see the goods, it just looks……out there but funny.

as for District 9 I’m psyched to see it, though probably not till the middle of the week. but ur not being negligent! if I recall correctly, you haven’t really gotten to see movies, with or without Camie, very much this summer. so enjoy your weekend of cinema! wish my plans for multiple movies in one weekend would ever pan out. hahaha. GL!
I originally planned on watching District 9 and The Goods this weekend, but initial reviews of The Goods are horrible, so I may switch that one by Ponyo. I haven’t even seen its preview, but read a little bit about it. I think I’d like that one. Anyone else interested in Ponyo?? Oh, and my anticipation for District 9 has been steadily increasing for the last month. I can’t wait to see it! 🙂
Did anyone else see the initial previews and trailers for District 9 and have flashbacks to Alien Nation? Because when I first saw the teaser, I would’ve sworn that D9 was a remake. Or loosely based on. With aliens that didn’t look like liverspotted blad caps.
I’m interested in Ponyo, but as a big fan of Ghibli I can’t say I agree with the marketing. The TV trailers have a very upbeat, pop soundtrack and any fan of Miyasaki’s films will tell you the chances of the movie being anything like that is pretty low. His movies are very sceneric (not a word, I think, but it fits) and making it look like a complete kids film is not doing justice his work.
I’ve been wanting to see District 9 too, and inglorious bastards looks pretty good. Quentin Tarantino and all. Not so pshyced for brad pitt in it, but i herd he did pretty good. haha
I hadn’t heard of District 9 until I saw the comic – I don’t watch many programs on TV anymore, and even when I did, you only get a very small fraction of the movie advertising you get in the US here in the UK. Having seen the trailer, I think it looks pretty good, but I’m hesitant. Because it also looks like it could possibly be along the lines of Godzilla (which I loathed) or King Kong (which I can’t even bring myself to see), insofar as humans being the bastards, but winning in the end against enemies who should never have been enemies, were enemies through no fault of their own, and/or were enemies only because of unprovoked hostilities visited upon them. If I hear that there’s some sort of positive resolution in the end – hopefully without hearing outright spoilers – I’ll be much more likely to see it than if it’s just another case of, “*Yaaay*, we fought the monsters of our own making and won – Us are still better than Them!”
First time poster here, I wanted to get through all the archives first and as you can imagine that takes quite a while (and now that there is no next comic button there is a twinge of sadness). Just wanted to say that I love the comic and keep up the good work.
Caught the midnight show of District 9 last night, and it totally floored me. Absolutely exceeded my expectations, and is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. Great story, effects (and action sequences), and fairly original (though I haven’t seen Alien Nation yet). Also gives characterization to the aliens, something you don’t see enough in movies.
As for the Goods, I think it looks pretty funny, though like all mainstream comedy releases, I’m naturally skeptical. I may just see In The Loop for the fourth time for my giggles this weekend.
Wow Seth I’m pretty sure you’re the first person I’ve heard that was excited about it being Tarantino but bummed about it having Pitt. Everyone else I know feels the exact opposite, myself included. I don’t feel that Tarantino has had any good movies since Pulp Fiction. Pitt > Tarantino imo.
Once upon a time, science fiction ALL had more on it’s mind than space battles for the sake of space battles. It’s refreshing to see that THAT kind of sci fi is coming back.
I saw District 9 on Friday. I was excited, but I would much rather have seen 500 Days of Summer, which I still need to see. But my fiancee wanted to see District 9, which was very good despite it not being my first choice (third choice actually). I wasn’t in the sci-fi mood, but it certainly brought me around rather quickly. It gave me a distinct H.G. Wells feel, which is good considering he is essentially the father of modern science fiction.
Saw “The Goods” yesterday, absolutely awesome and as funny as advertised. It’s up there with Superbad as far as style of humor and level of hilarity, so use that as a reference as to whether or not you’ll like it. I didn’t enjoy The Hangover even a quarter as much as I liked The Goods, and I still thought The Hangover was a good flick.
Definitely not a movie for the kiddies, but it’ll have you laughing the whole way through.
I saw The Goods this afternoon and it’s basically 20 good one-liners looking for a plot. There’s a lot of cliche’s and contrivances in the movie. I wasn’t expecting it to be great, but with a semi-original premise using used car salesmen, I thought they could have gone in a couple different directions with it.

Looking forward to District 9, The Goods, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Ponyo, and I’m sure there’s something I’m missing.
Most of them will probably have to wait until DVD, but I’m going to make an extra effort for District 9.

I love Tom’s look of childish excitement in the first panel. Probably a good representation of how many of us feel about District 9.

Haase, although his movies haven’t reached as high as pulp fiction for a while, he has had some good movies after that, in my oppinion. haha.
