If you travel in geek circles, the big news today was that Marvel aired the latest trailer for The Avengers during some… sporting event last night? Football? I don’t keep up on these things.
Let’s focus our attention on what really matters.
This trailer is the extended online edition which is somehow 30 seconds longer than what aired last night without telling us too much more about the movie.
I’d say Marvel is doing a pretty good job of whipping up a nerd frenzy. They’re showing us just enough without giving away too much. With each additional release, they show a little more, but they don’t go overboard. Clearly they know that the Hulk is their ace in the hole and they’ve done a good job obscuring him up to this point.
GeekTyrant did an excellent job of dissecting the trailer and grabbing stills – a few of which I’m going to share here. But you should really check out their article for more details.
Here’s our best look at the Hulk so far.
And because you all know what a huge Iron Man geek I am, here are the two stills that got my heart racing.
Suiting up…
…and would you look at that? I see some additional back thrusters and shoulder-mounted weaponry in that still! Looks like Iron Man got an upgrade!
Yeah, I know, I’m hopeless.
What’s your reaction to this trailer? Leave your comments below!
This might be nerd heresy, but I don’t think it looks very exciting! The trailer doesn’t show us if the movie has any heart to it, just “hey these guys are going to team up! action and explosions yeah!!!” I guess that’s the whole point of a teaser trailer though.
I can understand your criticism. It has some merit – especially when they’re not showing us much. My theory is that Captain America as a “man out of time” will probably be the emotional center of the film. But beyond that, yeah, probably lots of explosions.
“We have a Hulk.” ‘nuf said.
I really didn’t go Yay or Nay over the comercial. I;’d like my trailer to have at least a LITTLE hint at what the story is about, all the uninitiated moviegoer gets from this one is “big bad nondescript threat” So either they are hoping on the comic nerd demo to make this movie thrive, or they don’t think it has a strong story to start with.
I’ll tell you what DID get my attention though? not a single ad for DKR. that movie promises to be bigger and badder than the Avengers if the previous outings are any indication, and not so much as a batarang flew across my screen.
My guess is that Warner Bros. is choosing their battles when it comes to promoting against The Avengers. Avengers comes out in May. Dark Knight comes out in July. By the time the shine is off the apple for The Avengers, Dark Knight will be there to pick up the ball and run with it.
Oh man, I’m a huge fan of the Hulk, so this trailer is doing it for me. That shot of the whole team with Hulk standing there with them makes me geek out so hard. Also I really want to know who the “army” is, but I like that Marvel is playing it close to the chest.
I wonder if the limited action shots (mostly just explosions) are due to them still working on the special effects? I think it’s a Kree invasion.
Either way, I’m there opening day, so I’m on media blackout from here on out. Super excited!
I really enjoyed this teaser. I don’t want to speculate much on the invaders from another world/realm, but I like to think they might be Badoon.
I think the other full length trailer was actually more exciting; that said, I’m *soo* excited for Avengers! 🙂
Holy balls, I totally nerd squeed when I saw the hulk… I am so excited for this film it’s unbelievable. Hopefully the Australia release isn’t too far behind the US
