I know that talking about ads that aired on the Super Bowl three days after the fact is like asking you to study ancient Sanskrit in internet terms, but I’m getting caught up, okay? I’m not going to dig into ever trailer that aired during Sunday’s game. Just the spots that got my attention. And I’d say – out of all of them – the trailer for Captain America is the one to beat.
The spot is cut together pretty fast. It’s almost “you blink and you miss it” fast. But I think it hits all the right notes in terms of flashing iconic images of Cap’s shield and The Red Skull unmasking himself. These image do what a good teaser clip should – they make us want to see more of the movie.
I’m still a little freaked out by Chris Evans’s gigantic head on a tiny body, but the effect is otherwise seamless. I’m also a little disturbed that the Super Solider serum apparently gives you boobs. But that’s neither here nor there.

I firmly declare: Nothing. Nothing is wrong with The Rocketteer. Ever.
I’ve never been a fan of the ole Rocket. It’s an ok popcorn flick, just not my cup o tea.
I hope Cappie is good, but have little faith in JJ as a director. I’ll defend JP3, but it’s not a good movie, and ‘the Wolfman’ was pretty mediocre as well.

I’m just happy they didn’t modernize his storyline with a random Iraq-war something or other.
The producers have an easy-out with Captain America from a chronological stand point since the Super Soldier serum is basically a magic elixir – of which one of it’s properties is keeping Steve Rogers young.
Also, he gets frozen in a block of ice.
Hmm. That might be a real downer for the end of the movie?
Which is why I wouldn’t be surprised for the ending of the movie not to be Captain being frozen, but perhaps Shield finding him frozen.
Didn’t CA get trapped in some kind of alternate dimension with the Red Skull or something like that? Or was this a different timeline that I’m thinking about?
This trailer is not the one to beat. Super 8 is. MHO.
However, this looks so much better than Thor, and I think this will be in almost in line with Incredible Hulk, but not touching Iron Man in quality and entertainment. Also, anyone get the feeling that Natalie Portman got so depressed after shooting Black Swan that she signed up for a bunch of fun movies afterwards? (Thor, No Strings Attached). Just commenting.
Objectively, I would agree Super 8 is the trailer to beat. But I’d say right now Captain America has the buzz. They’ve been very smart about the drip, drip, drip of information around production that has put the movie top-of-mind for me.
Aside from Kenneth Branagh’s direction, I agree that Thor looks like a dud. There’s nothing about Chris Hemsworth that I feel like I can connect with.
