Do you know what’s sad? I’ve heard of none of the winners except Dark Knight – and Wall-E.

To be fair, most of the winners popped up at the end of the year. Well, except for In Bruges which I think was late Spring and Vicky Christina Barcelona which was maybe early Summer. But those were smaller offerigns, not widely seen.

I was pretty surprised by Anna Paquin’s winning over January Jones for best actress in a TV series. Happy to see In Bruges get some recognition, I liked that movie. Other than that, so many of those movies came out in just the last few weeks that I haven’t had a chance to see them.

I was glad to see Slumdog Millionaire sweep most of the big awards. Since they pretty much shut out The Dark Knight from the whole show, at least my other favorite got some love.

I was shocked by Ferrell’s win. Shocked may be overstating it but it did make me look up from my copy of Watchmen to pay attention. I remember all the trailers for In Bruges and thinking about how awesome it looked. It was being billed as some crazy comedy with a midget and Colin Ferrell so I finally caught it on DVD and was caught off guard by the story. You should really check it out Tom. I’d rank it right up there with the Wrestler in terms of quality of movies I’d seen last year.

I was very surprised and happy that Kate Winslet won for both her nominations. She’s an outstanding actress who is always being snubbed for her performances.

Honestly, I was a little surprised by the fact that Heath Ledger won best supporting actor. I thought he did an great job, but just because you’re dead doesn’t guarantee you an award, no matter how good/bad you were. I kinda thought Philip Seymour Hoffman would get it.

Also I was very happy that Jeremy Piven DID NOT win for best supporting actor. I’m kind of tired of him always winning when quiet frankly, Neil Patrick Harris deserves it much more (Rain Wilson too).

I was ridiculously happy to see In Bruges win for something, anything, and I’m really glad Slumdog did so well, but I was kind of hoping Benjamin Button would win something, as that is my favorite movie of last year. I honestly don’t know if it was nominated for anything, or if it came out early enough to count, though.
