You forgot about “Inkheart.” Here’s the plot straight from IMDB, “A young girl discovers her father has an amazing talent to bring characters out of their books and must try to stop a freed villain from destroying them all, with the help of her father, her aunt, and a storybook’s hero.”
Madagascar and Disney’s “The Wild” were two similar ones as well. There are lots of movies that were remade from classic ones (and not so classic). I remember a string of black comedies that seemed to come out a few years ago that were all remakes of older movies that I enjoyed. “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”, “White Chicks” and “Some Like it Hot”. Lot’s of others but I like keeping it short and sweet.
Oh yea, well Twister quite possibly could’ve been a rip off of a made for TV movie called “Tornado!” with Bruce Campbell. I mean seriously, the plots are nearly identical and Twister was so bad it had to be stolen from a made for TV B-movie.
Anyways… Hail to the King baby. hehe
Actually, I would be thrilled to have a sequel to Eddie Murphy Raw. I saw the first in the theater (yeah, I’m dating myself, but I wasn’t old enough to see it by myself then) and everyone laughed so hard we were spitting soda out our noses. My friends and I endlessly quoted it. Heck, I’m starting to feel nostalgic and am going to NetFlix Raw after I post.
Eddie Murphy I’ve essentially written off at this point, the last movie of his I enjoyed was Dr. Doolittle 2 (yes, I liked that movie). Since then… eh (though I’m all for him returning to the heavy stuff). Adam Sandler at least still has some good juice left (especially if he delivers in Funny People). Of course, I’ll probably just skip all the kid fair this weekend and finally get around to watching The Hangover (and maybe see if Pelham 1 2 3 can match up to the awesome original).
As for similar movies, yeah, they happen, I’ve read the Cracked article. Though the Observe and Report and Paul Blart one is mostly just in the fact that both involve Mall Security Guards. From there, they’re wildly different.
Also, I’m on Internet Explorer and getting the Malware alert on this site. Just so you know.
As for the malware, I saw it too using IE8. Sometimes, it’s the fault of the advertisers, who may have some code embedded in their spots that are trying to get better readings of who is on the site looking at the ads, which the security software picks up as an attack. Insert your own offensive ad joke here…
Second, while there are ‘trends’ (for lack of a better word) among project in Hollywood, two of the examples cited aren’t really mere coincidences. The cases where ANTZ came out before A BUG’S LIFE and DEEP IMPACT before ARMAGEDDON were pictures from Dreamworks Pictures, where Jeffrey Katzenberg had come right after leaving Disney, the studios responsible for the back half of the two pairings. In both cases, it was obvious that Katzenberg was bringing ideas fromhis old shop to the new slate, in large part to get back at his old boss Michael Eisner. In those two cases, there was actual bad blood involved in those similies.
Didn’t even know what IMAGINE THAT was until I saw this comic. That tells you how far Murphy has fallen off my radar. And, since comic strip Tom sums up my feelings in the last panel, I doubt that the film will get any denarii from me.
BTW I’m running Internet Explorer, and I got the Exploit.PDF_JS virus from your site. Not a lot of fun. I COULD have it again, since I came back to see if it’s fixed, but I know how to beat it now. Boy, do I ever. You’d think the full version of BitDefender could stop that in its tracks. No, but it will tell you when you’ve caught it. Sheesh.
Here’s an obscure one. “Prefontaine” and “Without Limits.” True, they came out a year and a half apart (according to IMDB,) but that’s still a pretty short amount of time gone by before releasing a second movie about Steve Prefontaine.
Deep Impact and Armageddon came out close to each other, I think Lake Placid and that intelligent shark one were close together as well

Truman Show and Ed Tv
Below and Ghost Ship
Six Sense and Stir of Echos
The Illusionist and The Prestige
As for the comic… agreed. Ice cream is better. ^_^
Observe and Report and Mall Cop
Hollywoodland and The Black Dahlia
Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings
Tombstone and Wyatt Earp.
Capote and Infamous.

Wow, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, really? I really hope you’re joking there.
How about TV movie rip offs? I remember when Twister came out, there was a TV movie that was being played constantly called “Night of the Twisters.”

How about, The Ant Bully and Arthur and the Invisbles? They came out within a few months of each other.
Yup, I’ll also say that I thought Bedtime Stories was ripping off Inkheart…..

Eddie Murphy funny. Wow, I miss that.
A stretch, but: Titanic and Speed 2 (boat movies… both made by Fox)?

The wild and Madagascar.
Its been proven that Madagascar stole parts of the script of The Wild.
*Knows the director of the wild, so is kinda biased*
OK, two things:

‘shark tale’ and ‘the reef’; even used the same font for the title if i remember?
though inkheart was a book years before ‘bedtime stories’ came out…
