It will be interesting to see how this story, although I don’t think there’s much substance in today’s strip.
As for Watchmen, to be honest, I’m getting a very “Batman & Robin”-esque vibe. So, I don’t have much curiosity in it.
I usually try to avoid critic reviews in general. About the only one I do usually read is ReelViews (and that won’t be up until 3/4). I’m psyched to see Watchmen hit the screen, and I don’t think ANYTHING could change that. Of course I’m also bias. I’m a huge fan of both Dawn of the Dead and 300, so my expectations for what Snyder has done is probably unrealistically high.

Watchmen. Watchmen looks really, really weird. But I’d never even heard of it until the movie, so maybe it’ll have a following with people who actually know the comic…i mean, graphic novel.
Yeah I am stoked for the Watchmen, as a fan of the Graphic Novel I think if they stayed relatively true to the source material (obviously some deviation has to take place) I should walk out happy.
I think it’s got potential, I stay away from the reviews until after I have watched it.
Also the Chun Li movies looks terrible, I can’t believe they made that. Are Fanboys really that rabid to have Chun Li on screen. Makes you wonder who in the studios comes up with these ideas
I’m sorry but I am just tired of superhero movies I don’t think I could stand to see the Watchman. I’ll see the Wolverine prequel but that’s that. I’ve lost interest in comic movies.
This is a SLOW movie weekend too. blah. A theatre near me is showing the live action and animated shorts that were nominted for Oscars. That sounds more promising then Jonas Brothers 3-D
I am cautiously optimistic about Watchmen, though it’s hard not to get excited. The trailers are great. The posters I’ve seen at the theaters are pretty terrible, which is an odd disconnect, because I’ve seen some awesome poster art online.
I generally avoid reviews until after I see the movie. The less you know going in the better, IMO.
Critic-proof? Most certainly not. If a movie is good or bad it deserves to be criticized. They way I see it, even if the movie is not perfect, how could I possibly miss it?

By “critic-proof” I meant will audience still go to see Watchmen if the reviews are bad? It looks like you’re going either way, so maybe it is critic-proof.
I’m not saying that a movie doesn’t deserve to be criticized. I’m just trying to measure how much impact reviews will have in the long run.
Watchmen will rake it in the first two weeks for sure, then I don’t know. I plan on going to a midnight screening thursday night. regardless of any reviews. It must be seen. the graphic novel is just too good to not watch the movie.
also, its amusing that I just happened to rewatch 300 yesterday… that was certainly critic proof
The reviews I’ve read for Watchmen have been fair to highly positive, so I’ve got some faith in it. Box office wise I’m not sure how people are going to react, what with the storyline being what it is and every really big, supposedly-really-good comic book movie these days drawing inevitable TDK comparisons. At any rate I’m still going to see the thing twice since I’ve been waiting for it all these years

Also, @totalmoviefreak: The Watchmen isn’t anything like any comic/graphic novel you may have ever read, and if the movie is anything like other comic book movies, I’ll be somewhat disappointed in it.

that is what I’ve heard but…I don’t know They all seem to run together now. Maybe if all these movies had been spread apart I’d be more forgiving or interested. Years from now I may look back and say “I should have seen Watchman” but for now, I’ll pass.
Oh, now I know what you mean. I think it will be critic-proof for most fans of the comic.
I always check Rotten Tomatoes and metacritic.com. If the reviews are bad I’ll skip a movie. For some movies, I decide it will be critic-proof for me, and I’ll see the movie even if it gets bad reviews, because I’m so absolutely certain that the movie will get only the best reviews. Last year it was Iron Man, WALL-E and the Dark Knight for me. This year I’m relying on Watchmen, Up, Harry Potter 6 and Star Trek. For movies that might not be the best ever, I plan on seeing them unless the reviews are significantly bad. Like Terminator with Christian Bale.

I was fortunate to see watchmen wed gone. I work at the cinemas here in Australia and got to attend a press screening.
I went in cautious, like you Tom. I hated 300’s use of slow mo, and I didn’t think that Moores narrative structure would adapt to the screen. I have always been under the impression that watchmens story wasn’t what made it great, but the way it was told. It was written in the 80’s and the narrative itself has been done in other who-done-it’s plenty of time. A movie with a red herring or two followed by the grand reveal at the end, I just didn’t think a modern audience would be impressed by that.
However, I have to say, i was very satisfied by the adaption. It was faithful in more than just the visuals (even dr manhattans junk made the cut). The ending rewrite wasn’t integral, AT ALL. The way the movie tackles the ending makes a lot more sense in terms of overall tightness and flow, I think too many themes would have spoilt this movie. I’m obviously being cryptic because I don’t want to be dishing spoilers.
As long as you’re not looking for a recreation of the graphic novel, you should walk away appreciating the adaptpion. I certainly did, and I am a big movie critic!
Reviews are coming in around the same rating as slumdog millionaire. I believe if you have apprehension towards this movie, you’re going to be pleanantly surprised.

well im ready to see watchmen, hell i bought my tickets 2 weeks ago for the midnight imax show and ive already had a friend who attended the mtv spoilers thing and he said watchmen is just freaking awesome, and considering we both mainly have the same taste in flicks im pretty sure im gonna dig this film also, and i guess im slightly bias considering i also really enjoyed dawn of the dead and 300
That ring is most likely still caught in the toilet trap.
(I pulled one out that had been ‘lost’ for 6 years – six years of flushes – the owner was convinced it was long gone until we replaced his toilet.)
He just needs to take the toilet loose, turn it upside down, and ring will fall out.
(Then he needs to buy a new beeswax ring so he can reinstall the toilet and get a good seal.)
